Sweet Potato Queens

March 19, 2016

Mason drove Mom down to Spring for the weekend. She and I had tickets to see "Sweet Potato Queens The Musical." It was a good show! Cute costumes and great music!

CO Spring Break Trip - Day 6

March 17, 2016

Sue made us breakfast before we started to bring our suitcases down. We dropped off the rental car, killed some time at a mall, then headed for the airport but not before one last picture!

Goodbye Sue and Wally! Thank you for the hospitality!

CO Spring Break Trip - Day 5

March 16, 2016
Ed went into work while the boys and I went about exploring Denver. We started off at Voo-Doo Doughnuts for breakfast- except they don't have any tables. It is strictly a "to-go" place. Our car worked fine. It was a sweet morning!

From there we headed to the Denver Museum of Science and Nature.
The building is in the middle of a city park. It was a pretty view.
Chocolate Exhibit
 Egyptian Exhibit
 Earth Science Exhibit
 Dinosaur Exhibit
 Photo bomb??
 Space Exhibit
 Gem Exhibit
We ended our time at the museum with an IMax movie called, "Living in the Age of Airplanes."
We grabbed a bite of lunch at a downtown place called, "Annie's Dinner." Then we headed back to Sue's house to start gathering our stuff up.

CO Spring Break Trip - Day 4- Tea Tour

March 15, 2016 continued......

Since our snow tubing plans didn't pan out, we went to Plan B- Celestial Tea Factory Tour in Boulder, Colorado. (Another free tour, thank you very much!)
What's your pleasure? All flavors of tea for the tasting!
Cheers!
Selfie with the Sleepy Time Bear.
No pictures were allowed inside the factory but we were able to get a quick shot of us in our hair nets before we stepped inside. Dane was not happy about being seen in a hair net. Ha! But he soon forgot about it once the tour started.
Inside the gift shop with his new t-shirt.
The tour was a delight to the sense of smell. Every section had a different smell. In fact, even in the parking lot you were hit with the smell of cinnamon! It smelled like Christmas! The biggest blast to the nose was in the "Mint Room." The garage like door rolled up and we were hit with the overwhelming smell of mint. It was so strong it made our eyes burn! It was quite the experience!

Even though it wasn't what we had planned for the day, we were happy to have the tea tour as a back up activity.

We did have one little surprise as we drove away from the factory-- a field of gophers doing what gophers do best, I guess.
From there we headed to Denver for dinner at an Italian buffet place called, Cinzette's. The boys stuffed their faces.

CO Spring Break Trip - Day 4- Snow

March 15, 2016
We set out towards the Winter Park area to go snow tubing. The further out of Denver we got, the colder it got. When we arrived in the town of Empire it began to snow in earnest. We pulled over to check the Avalon tire tread because there was a snow chain advisory. While Ed checked the tires, we played in the snow.

Three out of the 4 tires met the tread requirement so we decided to keep going. That was before we really got into the mountain driving and the snow started in heavy. After sliding in the car on one of many hairpin curves, we decided Ed's Avalon could not get us to the top safely. (We later found out there was a blizzard blowing through that we were headed directly into.)

Still mesmerized by the snow, we stopped in a picnic area and played for 5 more freezing minutes. It was 10 degrees there and we Texans were not dressed properly.

Boys will be boys- yellow snow was made!
A few attempts at sledding on a Diet Coke box were made! Silly boys!
There is something beautiful about untouched snow.
(And birch trees! I love the birch trees!)

k
The little building behind us, in the shot below, were the bathrooms. Ummmm, nope! Can you imagine how cold those potty seats would be??? Not to mention snow up to your knees on the way there!
 This is not Texas, ya'll!

Back into the car we went, wet shoes, wet jeans and all!
Everyone but Dane wanted more so we stopped one more time close to Empire again for a few more minutes of snow play and more photos.
The snow flakes were coming down fast and furious still.
Mason tried a little boulder climbing.
Uh, oh! Someone landed on his back when he jumped off the boulder. Ha ha ha!
One last selfie.

A few miles down the mountain we stopped for hot chocolate.
Perfect! Warm and chocolatey.
