Krimmel Kolor Run

Dane's school, Krimmel Intermediate School, raises money by holding a "Kolor Run." We signed up with some friends, Emily and Isabel, for the Saturday morning 2 mile event.

It was a fun time-- getting squirted by volunteers holding giant bottles of colored corn starch as we made our way around the course.

And look how pretty we were afterwards!
Isabel, Dane, and me.
Dane is holding extra color packets. Read on to see why.

After everyone had finished the course, we met in the middle of the football field for a group "kolor bomb." At the count of three, everyone tossed their packets of extra color into the air and/or at each other for more color fun!

The color gets everywhere but thankfully it cleans up easily. And it was so much fun to get messy and silly that I don't even mind that I had to wash/bleach two loads of towels! Ha!

Spring Break Activities

Spring Break was weird this year. Klein ISD had their break the week before Pflugerville ISD and UNT. So, Mason packed and moved back to Pflugerville during the Klein ISD Spring Break, thus securing a second full week of Spring Break for himself from Pflugerville. It just worked out that way. Lucky, Mason.

Sadly, for Dane, the first 3 days of his Klein ISD Spring Break was nothing but rain! So we went to a movie and ate lunch out plus he went to a birthday party of a school friend. On Thursday, we took advantage of the light drizzle (versus full out rain) and drove to the Houston Aquarium. Also because of the drizzle, I did not take my Canon. These pics are all from my phone.

Here we are on the Shark Train.
Besides the Shark Train, they have a few rides on the property that Dane rode.
Lighthouse Dive
 Aquatic Carousel
At the front entrance to the Aquarium, Dane got cozy with a shark.
I have one picture from inside the aquarium.
There were a bunch of people so we were lucky to get one. Ha!
And one pic of the gorgeous white tigers.
The aquarium has a large restaurant that seats guests around a 150,000 gallon aquarium. It was very relaxing to watch the fish, string rays, and eels swim by as we ate lunch.
It was a fun day for Dane and something he had been wanting to go experience.

Clark worked on campus the first Sat, Sun, and Mon of his Spring Break. He arrived in Spring close to midnight on Monday night/Tuesday morning. Dane was back in school so Clark and I went to the movies, ate lunch out (Mexican and French), shopped for clothes and shoes for him, and got haircuts.
Every day when Dane got home, we played a different board game. These pics are from the day we played Dread Pirate and Clark cleaned our treasure troves out. Aaarrrggh!
There was some testosterone fueled wrestling too.
It was a great visit and we were sad to see him leave on Sunday morning.

Houston Zoo

On Thursday, Clark, Dane, and I took a trip to the Houston Zoo. In all our years in Texas, we had never been to this zoo so we were a little excited to go.

Being that is was Spring Break Week, we bought tickets online the night before and got to the zoo early to avoid the crowds and the rain. It worked! We found a close parking spot, walked right in to the gates, and avoided crowds till the end of our visit. Yay! We also missed the rain by about 20 minutes. Awesome!

First thing in, we went into the Aquarium House. The boys climbed through a tunnel that went through a larger aquarium.
This zoo has a large elephant exhibit. I was glad to see so many elephant in very large spaces as elephants are social animals. There were several moms and calves.
There were so many other animals to see. Here is a small sampling.
The boys spent a little time in the petting zoo section.
 Four horns! Fancy!
Here are two unidentified animals! Ha!
There was some lovely foliage through out the zoo.
We particularly liked the primate area.
(Mason, we missed you!)
We had this photo taken when we first arrived at the zoo. The photographer told us to hold out our hands as if we were holding something. As we were leaving, we stopped by to see the photo. To our delight they had photo shopped in a baby lion. So cute! And our faces! So cute, too!
We left the zoo and headed back in towards Spring, stopping for a late lunch at Mamacita's Mexican Cantina. Yum!

Dane and Ed went to a nearby lake to do a little fishing. Dane got lucky and landed a 1 lb bass. He was very excited especially since Ed didn't catch a thing.

Here are a few pictures of the exciting moment that Ed snapped with his phone.

Look at the pole bend! It is a big 'un!
You can see the head poking out as he reels it in.
Ta da! The bog catch of the day!
One last pic and back into the water he goes.
