First Day of School

Mason was up at 5:50am for the first day of school in Spring. His school starts at 7:20am. After a mom made breakfast of poached eggs on toast with a side of turkey sausage and a 1/2 of a banana, he got himself ready to go.

Here are his obligatory first day photos.
I even got a small smile out of him! Whoop!
Mason wasn't able to get a parking pass in the Jr parking pass lottery because he wasn't an officially registered student at the time of sign up. Luckily, one of the first people he met in the band lives a few streets over and is willing to give Mason a ride.

Waiting for Madison to pick him up. The dogs decided to get involved.
 She's here!
I also snapped a pic of and grabbed a kiss from this cutie on his way to work.
Dane was the last one to leave today. His school starts at 9:00am. After his mom made breakfast of the same, he got ready to go. It is completely coincidental that his lunch box matches his outfit!

Here are his obligatory first day photos.
Loaded down with his school stuff.
After hearing about the car traffic from several staff members at Krimmel, Dane decided to give the bus a try. The school isn't actually far from this house but you have to cross a 4 lane main thoroughfare to get to it so no biking to school this year!

We walked out to the corner stop directly behind the house. The bus was right on time! Unfortunately, I was so focused on time and seeing him off that I didn't snap a pic. Maybe I can get one when he gets of the bus this afternoon. I will try!

I got one! Dane returned home happy and excited about his classes! Great news!

Band and BBQ

Signifying the end of summer band practice, the Klein Oak Band performed their marching music for parents in the high school gym. We were there to hear it! These are the first pictures of Mason with his new band.
Afterwards, we joined others for a BBQ dinner in the lunchroom.
The shirt Mason is wearing is the show shirt for this year. The show is called, "Checkmate."
Looking forward to seeing them march on the field in a weekend or so!

Houston Museum of Natural History

Dane and I took a day to go downtown to The Houston Museum of Natural Science. While we didn't get to see everything, (the place is huge!), we did go through the butterfly center, watch a movie in the planetarium, and spend time in several exhibits. It was also a good place to practice my photography skills both with flash on and off.

Butterfly Center
Live butterfly's straight from their cocoons.
A large moth in camouflage mode.
Inside the butterfly center's glass atrium you can experience the beauty of butterfly's swirling around you in a beautiful and lush tropical setting.
Have you ever seen a plant quite like this?
In the Gemstone Carving room, this quartz skull caught our eye.
Here is Dane in the energy exhibit. He really enjoyed that particular exhibit.
The paleontology exhibit. Who doesn't like dinosaur bones?
I took some no-flash pic of the planetarium show about black holes. Great colors.

We stopped for lunch at the in-house McDonald's. I asked Dane what he wanted to see in the hour and half we had left. To my surprise, he said, "I think I would like to see the Egypt exhibit, too." Wow! I had only mentioned once that I was interested in that exhibit. How thoughtful that he picked something he knew I wanted to see.

I took a ton of pics (again, no-flash) in this exhibit. I am completely fascinated by the tombs, artifacts, and mummies, etc. Dane was too--until we came to the sarcophagus and mummy rooms. Ert! The brakes went on. To his credit, he found a "safe room" and waited patiently for me to come out. I could have stayed much longer had I been alone. Next time maybe!

Look at these amazing pieces of art and history!
In the back of the paleontology exhibit we came across this smaller exhibit of fossilized tree rings. Beautiful!
That was it for us. We had a nice day and enjoyed our time at the museum. I am sure we will go back. There is so much more to see! Plus, the rest of my boys need to go too.

Pool Party

Dane went from New Braunfels to Pflugerville for a visit with Nanny and Poppy. Mason met him there. Here are some pics I just received from Nanny.

Pool Party with his Pville friends!
Mason and best bud Joel had some hang out time.
It is nice that we are close enough for the boys to visit grandparents and friends.
