Guitar Trio

Mason and his friends from school, Josh and Tony have formed a band called, "One Last Defiance." They have been getting together a couple of times a week to practice. All three of them play both electric and acoustic, with Josh playing bass.

Last night the band came to our house to play a song that Mason had written earlier that evening while they were at rehearsal.
We were happy to get the opportunity to hear them. They play well together!

Again this year, Dane participated in his school's Black History Oratorical. He advanced through 3 rounds to make it to the night time performance. His poem was, "My Country," by Curtis Mayfield. He did a great job with it! His enunciation was wonderful as were his gestures and voice control. (See video below to judge for yourself.)

Short video of  Dane's poem from the night performance.

All 56 performers were given a lovely certificate for just having the courage to get on stage and perform!

A short video of the 4th grade winner announcement.

Dane and classmate Nathan check out their trophies!
The 4th grade winners!
(This photo will be in the yearbook.)
Nanny came to hear Dane. She was a proud Nanny that night!
Dane and his good friend Kennedy pose for a trophy winner pictures. This is the second year in a row that they both earned trophies!
Afterwards, we all went to Freddie's to celebrate with a burger and custard.

Dane was invited to lead the United States and the Texas State pledges at the PISD Trustee Board Meeting tonight. Dane was excited to get the opportunity to represent his school and family.

Short Video

He did such a good job! We were proud of him and the way he handled himself on the mic and with the hand shaking of the board members.
Here is the script of what was said about Dane as he shook hands with the board members.
"Dane is a fourth-grader in Mr. Lubman’s class at Highland Park Elementary.  His principal, Mrs. Ruckel, describes Dane as a “super star.”  He’s a straight A student, a member of the Bulldog Honor Choir and the Diversity Team.  Dane is a busy young man!"

Spring Break Road Trip

Dane, Clark, Granlally, and Grandad packed up their bags and hit the road for Spring Break. Starting from Texas they pointed the GPS towards Kentucky. (Can you point a GPS? Ha!)

I wasn't on the trip but am going to do my best to document the trip with site links. (If anyone who was on the trip wants to send me narrative, I will happily add it to the post.)

First stop, The William J Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Fun in the car!... Crazy in the car???
Sinking Springs
Lally with two of her cousins in Kentucky.
Makers Mark Distillery Tour  in Loretto, KY.
Grandad purchased two bottles (one for me and Ed- whoop!) and got to dip the neck of the bottles in the red sealing wax.
Rooster Run, Kentucky- a great place to take your picture with a giant rooster and use the restroom.
Lally's sister, Gwen shows off her adorable granddaughter Iris.
This Lego Event inside the Slugger Museum was what started the idea of the trip in the first place.

The Frazier Museum in Lousiville, Ky.
The last stop was at the St. Louis Arch in St. Louis, MO.

Tally's Cafe in Tulsa, OK on Route 66.

From here they pointed the GPS back to Texas. All this and more in 8 days! Whew!
They all reported having a great time. They all agreed they would take another road trip together, but only after a few days break from the car.
