Medina's Surprise

Our Highland Park principal of 2 yrs, Mr. Medina, is moving on to a new adventure. He will be opening the newest Pflugerville Elementary School called Barron Elementary, in the fall of 2012.

On Thursday, May 17th,  Mr. Medina was sent off with a Broadway styled goodbye. Sniffle, sniffle!

Mr. Medina was surprised to find the entire school gathered to say good bye!
There were signs and cheering children waiting for him!
First up was a presentation from the PTO. Nicki, Cathie, Michelle, and myself, all dressed in our school spirit shirts, thanked him and gave him a gift on behalf of the PTO. (I handed someone my camera when the ladies of PTO walked out. I didn't specifically say, "take pics of us." So I have no picture of that moment.) Yes, I cried!

Next up was a performance by HPES Step Team.
Honor Choir serenaded him with a song called, "Happy Day!"
The Umpaloompa's from the upcoming play of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, sang the Umpaloompa Song.
The HPES Ballet Folklorica performed the dance of the Old Man.
Mr. Medina loved it all! Aplauso!
Mrs. Parker, our assistant principal, presents Mr. Medina with a gift from the staff.
He gets the first copy of the 2011-2012 HPES yearbook signed by all the staff!
And a beautiful crystal hour glass with glitter in the blue water that flows through it.

Touched by the gesture, Mr. Medina takes the bullhorn to say a few words. Of course, he has a teary moment, as did we all, but he recovers to end the  message on a high note!
The finale was produce by Coach I. The 3rd thru Kinder kids started a flash mob dance to "Car Wash'" while the 4th and 5th graders blew bubbles for the car wash suds. So stinking cute!
As the dance continued, the kids began to circle around Mr. Medina.
Lots of good byes and hugs (and bubbles) for Mr. Medina!
Good luck at your new school, Mr. Medina.
You will be sorely missed at HPES!
