Falcon Pointe Splash Park

On June 15th, I took Dane and Mason plus their friends Bryan and Elizabeth to the Falcon Pointe Splash Park. It is a new little park that a builder put in and gave to the city. The city made it a free park. Upon arrival, I was shocked at how little it was. The photos I had seen had made it look larger. We decided to stop anyway. To my surprise, we were there for a good hour. The kids had a great time, got wet, and played hard. And I got to shoot pics and get wet as I walked around getting the shots!

Just a bit down the path they had an animal see-saw, swings, and covered picnic tables. The kids played there for a little while.

Baby birds in the front yard.

This year we had an interesting nest in one of the front yard trees. A pair of Western Kingbirds built it and laid their eggs. We had been watching the activity in the nest and watching out for the dive bombing parents! Finally we saw 2 beaks sticking over the edge of the nest. Two babies! Exciting! Other than taking some photos of the mama bird, we had left them alone.

Then on June 17th, we noticed 3 babies sitting around the nest. We all were so excited!! Wait, 3 babies? We had only ever seen 2 beaks! What a surprise! I ran for the camera! Of course, the nest is tucked in well so I added text to the only good pic I got of all three of them in one frame. (Click to enlarge.)

This is baby #2 once it came out of the tree center but before it flew away.

The mama is close by as the babies venture out on their own.
Isn't she a beauty?
I had to run one of the boys somewhere and when we came back we noticed that 2 babies had flown away and the third was still in the nest. I grabbed the camera again!

Baby 3 took it's sweet time leaving the nest and hoping around from branch to branch in the tree. We watched it all happening!

I like this shot because you can see the nest really well. Isn't it interestingly made? I wonder from where they got all those materials?

I like this shot..........
.....but this is my FAVORITE SHOT!!!!!
I love everything about it!
The next series of shots is the actual first flight of baby 3. Exciting, I know!

Off baby 3 goes!
Both mama and dad bird fly in.....
......and follow baby all the way..... the safety of our roof top!
Baby 3 made it!
It really was exciting for us to see it all unfold!
It was really fun to shoot and terribly exciting
to get some amazing shots!

Moon and Steeple

The other night, the moon was just a sliver of silver with one big bright star above it so I grabbed my camera to try to get some shots. I have not figured out night shooting yet. After this photo session, I still have not! :-) I think I will try to find a Continuing Ed class for night photography soon.

Anyway, here are some pics from the session. Some still shots and some open lens shots..... not good but just for fun. (Click on any photo to see it bigger.)

We had to drive into downtown Pflugerville so I shot a couple of the First Baptist Church Steeple. Again, not good......

Starwars in Concert

Starwars in Concert is touring right now. They came to Austin on June 6th. We had purchased 6 tickets with the intention of the family going. We scored getting floor tickets, center, 2nd section from the stage, 1st row of that section- perfect seats!

After watching the boys FLIP OUT about the show/tickets, we asked Clark if he would like to make the concert his birthday party (only about 5 weeks before his real birthday) by inviting friends and Mason to go to the concert. He didn't hesitate to say yes!

The teens came to the house for a pre-movie and hot dogs.
Clark in a fighter helmet.
We drove them to the Frank Erwin Center an hour before the concert start time so they could have plenty of time viewing the exhibits (authentic movie props, back drops, etc.).

Clark took two pictures from their seats before the concert started.

The whole ride home, it was non stop Starwars Concert talk and general silliness. They LOVED the concert!

Back at the house, we had cookie cake for dessert.........

followed by silly dancing!

Happy early Birthday, Clark!!

Pie Happy Hour

There is a little restaurant on Main Street in Hutto called The Texan Cafe. They are known for serving yummy home style food. What most people don't know is that they have a "Pie Happy Hour" Tuesday through Saturday from 3pm to 5pm. During "Pie Happy Hour" you get a slice of pie and a drink for $3.74. The really cool part is that you get to choose the kind of pie from an old pie display case, and man, are there choices!!! Fruit pies, chocolate pies, cobblers, cakes........ wow! All home made and freshly made!

My boys had heard about "Pie Happy Hour" but had never gone. They decided it would be a great "last day of school outing." I agreed! So we started inviting our friends. In the end, we had a total of 30 people (including us) show up that day for pie.

I ordered Chocolate Silk Pie..... OMG good!
People and pie pictures.

Of course, you can't visit Main Street in Hutto without stopping by the giant Hippo! My van load of silly boys were all for it!
