Cub Scouts Parade and Capitol tour

On Saturday, 6 Feb 2010, Dane rode in the "Report to State" Boy Scout / Cub Scout parade up Congress Avenue to the Texas State Capitol. Each year the Scouts march to the Capitol and then present a report of the year's Scouting activities to the Governor in the House of Representatives chambers. This was a particularly special parade event because we were celebrating the 100th anniversary of Boy Scouting in 2010.

Here's a shot up Congress Avenue towards the Capitol building as we joined our Pack, #711, during the parade lineup.

If you looked south down Congress Avenue behind us, you saw even more Scouts!

Dane climbed on board and waited with his buddies for the parade to begin.

To signal the start of the parade, the planes flew over in formation heading towards the Capitol. Another dad said this flying group was called the "Georgetown Harpies" from Georgetown, Texas.

I headed up the street for a good seat, and before long here came the boys marching and riding towards a meeting with Governor Rick Perry.

The other boys were still pretty energetic from cheering for 10 blocks, but by the time Dane passed by he was starting to slow down.

At the parade's end, we jumped off the trailer and marched up the grounds to tour the grandest capitol of them all, The TEXAS State Capitol! Yahoo, pardners!

My last picture of the morning, just inside the Capitol building posing under a giant 12' picture of Davy Crockett. Sadly, the camera battery finally died after struggling through the morning. I had lots of colorful shots from earlier in the parade as well as inside the Capitol that didn't come out. Oh well, we still had a great time visiting the true HEART of TEXAS!
