Football Luncheon

With the Super Bowl around the corner, we threw the staff a "Football Tailgater's Luncheon." It was so cool!! I am still a little buzzy from the high of a successful event! Hup, hup!!!

On Thursday night, some of the committee members got together for a set-up night. We decorated the lounge and got the tables set up in the workroom.

Here are pictures of the tables with food!! Yummy! Everything was donated by parents except the chicken nuggets. Chick-Fil-A donated at large nugget tray and we bought a second one.

I even got the Dr. Pepper football shaped bottles donated from a parent who works for Coca-Cola Co. Rockin'!

As a "door prize" we gave away a super cool football toy (look closely at the first table picture). All staff could enter- the principal, my friend Christie, won! It was a completely random drawing! I have witnesses!

It was another completely successful hospitality event. My committee rocks!!!!

Texas Ice Storm

We had a brief ice storm blow through last night. In the morning it took forever to get the front windshield clear so we could drive to school.

Clark took a picture of ice on the wind vein before he left for school. When I got home later, I took a couple of semi-melting ice pictures.

For viewing your pleasure......

That was probably the biggest weather event Central Texas will have this winter! The weatherman says we will be back in the 70's by the weekend!

Science Fair 2009

All 5th graders were required to participate in the 2009 school wide science fair. Having made it to Regional the past two years, Mason was not excited about doing another project. Having no choice, he did a project.

This year's project was called, "Paper Airplanes Take Flight." Judging took place on Thursday during the day. (Ed was a judge but not for 5th grade projects.) On Thursday night, the school hosted "Math & Science Night." They had hands-on science and math activities for all to try, in addition to a science fair project viewing time in the library.

The 5th graders had a "soda and water booth" to help raise money for their graduation. The tips alone paid for the cost of the soda & water. So the money from the sale was the first money into the account for the graduation!
5th graders Dana, Chris, Brittany, Mason, and Eric work the first shift of the night.

At the end of the night, they had the awards for Science Fair. Every project fell into one of three categories- bronze, silver, gold. Mason's project earned him a gold certificate! Next they called up the owners of the projects that will be advancing to the Austin Regional Science Fair on Feb 21st. Mason made it to Regional! Here he goes again- hoping to earn his 3rd regional 1st place blue ribbon.
Regional contenders & classmates Mason, Simon, & Joel
Congratulations smarty pants!

Ed Makes the Paper

Here is the follow up to the post "City Man." My sweet neighbor brought the paper over or we would not have even know about it! Maybe it is time for the City Man to subscribe to the city paper! Ha! (Click on the picture of the paper for a better look at the article.)

Penguin Day

Friday was the Kindergartner's Penguin Day! The kids were asked to come to school dressed in black and white clothes. In class, they made flipper shoe covers and penguin face headbands.

Here is Penguin Dane with two of this penguin classmates,
Andre' and Ethan.

At the end of the day they had "Penguin Games." I caught them, on camera, having an "ice ball" fight and then counting to see which team had more ice balls on their side of the iceberg at the end of the game.

Another interesting thing that happened on Friday was that 5 kids from Dane's class, over the course of the day, went home with fever. So, guess what happened to Dane yesterday evening?? Yep, he came down with fever, too. He has complained of a tummy ache but so far it has only been fever..... knock on penguin heads.

He will miss his 2nd day of school, for the whole year, tomorrow. We will see what happens from there.

Anyone care to bet how many Limbaugh's fall to this fever virus? I think 4 to 5. The bigger question is who falls next!

I am off to the store to load up on apple juice, chicken soup, apple sauce, 7-Up, and saltines.

City Man

Ed was sworn in as a member of the Board of Adjustments for the City of Pflugerville. They had an official ceremony on Tuesday night at the January City Counsel meeting. The position actually started in November and Ed has been attending the monthly meetings since then.

Someone from the city took photos. I will look for one in the city paper over the next few weeks and either post the link or scan the paper.

We are all proud of Ed as he takes one step closer to world domination. ...(insert villainous music here).

All this week, I have been up at the school taking class photos for the yearbook. I was able to shoot Mason's class today. (There are 50 something classes so it will take me several days!)

Band news.....

.......for Mason!!

This morning Mason and I went to the middle school for instrument try-out. I was very surprised that Mason even wanted to go since he has been talking about taking football and basketball as his electives. Nonetheless, I took him.

He tried every instrument except the flute, calling it too "girly." In the end, Mason and the director lady narrowed it down to three. To get to the final one, he tried out the trumpet, saxophone, and euphonium again. By far, his best sound was had on the.....wait for it...... SAXOPHONE.

He is very excited, as he went in to the try-out with that very instrument on his " I want to play list."

Here we go again with middle school band!! Say a prayer for my ears!

Broken Hip

I never did post a "Happy New Year" post. The main reason is because we were home-bodies on New Year's Eve and my Grandmother, Nana, fell and broke her hip that same day.

The short version is that she fell just out side of the Erwin Center after going to the "Rockettes Christmas Spectacular." She wound up at the Seton Northwest ER. X-rays reveled a fracture in the right hip ball. She was admitted with a plan to have surgery on New Year's Day.

Luckily, once inside, they only had to replace the right ball and not anything more! The only other scare was a low blood pressure issue. After spending half a day trying to get her blood pressure up, she was moved to ICU so they could monitor it continuously. The next day, she was stable and moved back to a regular room

Here she is after 3 & 1/2 days of being in the hospital. The boys didn't go up to visit until yesterday (Saturday). We walked in to see Nana up in a chair!

On Monday, Nana will go by ambulance to Seton Central Rehab on the 8th floor. She will stay there as long as she needs to be there. From there???? It will all depend on her mobility after rehab.

Oma's 94th Birthday!

January, 2nd, 2009, was Oma's 94th birthday!!!!

We met up with the family, last night,
for a birthday celebration at the San Marcos Red Lobster for dinner.

O'ma opening her cards with Wayne looking on and
Clark drooling in anticipation of his order of crab legs!

Lally, Alyssa, Cousin Sue, Laurie
That wait staff sings "Happy Birthday to Ann."
She really seemed to enjoy that!

Five shots later, we got a shot in which everyone can be seen!

Happy Birthday, O'ma!
We are so glad we could celebrate with you!
